일본이 국제커피구(International Coffee Organization, ICO) 회원국으로 가입됐다는 발표가 났네요! ICO는 1963년 UN 주도 하에 출범한 글로벌 커피기관으로 커피 수출국과 수입국들의 정부간 기구입니다. 일본은 지난 4년 동안 연간 커피 소비량이 약 2.2%씩 성장하는 상승세 속에 이번 가입이 결정되었으며, ICO는 이로써 75개국 회원이 활동하게 되었습니다.

ICO 위원장 로베리오 올리베이라 실바(Roberio Oliveira Silva)는 이번 일본 가입에 대해 "일본은 세계에서 가장 역동적이고 존경받는 커피 산업계 중 하나"라고 하면서 "미국, 브라질, 독일에 이어 4번째로 큰 커피 소비지로서 국제커피기구 회원이 된 것을 기쁘게 생각한다"고 전했습니다.
